Long Way to Go

Long Way to Go

What you see in us is still not clear
And now I’ve opened this door to fear
Afraid of a love that will not last
Because of mistakes I’ve made in the past
I’m almost afraid even to try
Afraid you’ll give up and then say good-bye
There’s so much at stake with so much to lose
But if I get to pick–it’s you I will choose
You’ve been patient, cautions, but kind
There is no doubt what I decided in mind
Our friendship, again, has begun to grow
But we have got such a long way to go

There may be some differences that come in between
But they cannot compare to what cannot be seen
Strength, determination and just plain desire
To see this thing through, to stand through the fire
I want to predict what the outcome will be
I want you to come through this with me
There are times–I know–I won’t understand
Why you don’t laugh or don’t hold my hand
All that will come and what will be found
Our love is planted on friendship’s ground
We can survive, no doubt it is so
Yet we have got such a long way to go

Our love will grow strong if determined we are
Despite hurts caused from the journey thus far
We’ll learn how to give and never to take
Learning the laughs that each of us make
I want to fulfill the things that you dream
Whether it’s love or chocolate ice cream
I want to know what hurts when you cry
So I won’t be standing there wondering why
I don’t want to be blind or lose sight of the track
Of that which you see and keeps bringing you back
I like the love that we used to know
We still have got such a long way to go
